BookNPC 2.0: 300+ cloud voices, a free library, and a new look

BookNPC has always turned the ebooks you own into audiobooks, with a different voice for every character. Version 2.0 brings a new set of cloud voices, a library of ready-made audiobooks you can play for free, and a new design from the library to the player.

More than 300 cloud voices

The headline is a new set of more than 300 premium AI voices, rendered on our cloud GPUs. They speak 10 languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Russian.

When you cast a book in the cloud, the app picks a voice for each character by their gender and age, so a grandmother does not sound like her grandson. You can still swap any voice yourself. Before a cast starts, the app shows what it will cost, and you can start it from any page: nothing before that page is cast or charged.

The voices on your phone still work as before. A single narrator in the book’s own language plays free on your device, offline, with no limits.

A free library in Discover

The Discover tab now holds a growing library of narrated classics, some with a full cast. Sign in for free, pick a book, and it plays. Listening time for these books is free: 60 minutes a day that refills every day, 30 more for each short ad you watch, or no limit at all with the optional Ad-free subscription. You can filter any shelf to full-cast books only.

A new look

Every screen has been redesigned, from your library to the player. Your library can show your books as a list or as a grid of covers, and a short What’s New screen tells you about changes like these after an update.

What it costs

Credits, shown as G, pay for the work done on your own books: a full cast, translation into another language, and cloud voices. You buy them once in small packs and they never expire. Discover books never use credits. See the pricing page for the per-page and per-hour rates.

If you had a BookNPC account before 2.0, we added 3 G to it. New accounts start with 2 G, enough to try a full cast on a book of your own.

BookNPC 2.0 is free on the App Store and Google Play. Bring a book, or start with a free classic.
